On behalf of the families in our Forest Glen community, I want to thank you, The Children’s Breakfast Club and all the sponsors for providing the opportunity for our students to participate in Bike Safety Day at Humber College on May 25th and for all the FREE bikes and helmets our students received.

This was incredibly well-received by our community and we had many, many happy students and families!

Bike Safety Day coincided with the beginning of Bike to School Week (May 27 – May 31) and we had record numbers of students riding their bikes to school that week. Throughout the week we had over 100 students ride their bikes to school, with many riding every single day – even in the rain. We were quick to realize that many students had old bicycles and we had staff and parents on hand to fix up some of the easier repair jobs. The 35 new bikes our students received were certainly appreciated our families are very grateful.

Several parents told me that many of the students who received free bikes were coming to the school grounds with their families after hours and on the weekend to practice riding in hopes that the training wheels would come off soon. And for many students the training wheels did come off!!

Also, many parents and teachers noticed that there was a significant drop in the number of students being driven to school because they were coming to school by bike. Since Bike to School Week, many our students have continued to ride to school.

The teachers and community have noticed a difference because of this opportunity. The children are excited to ride their new bikes and it is so positive for the entire community.

We are very, very grateful!
