During the summer months, there are a number of events and activities that people look forward to. Whether it be going up to the cottage, spending time at the lake or the park, or simply spending time with the family while being out in the sun. In Ontario, however, the multicultural community brings about even more excitement and energy into these summer months by sharing with us their culture whether it be through food, activities, or even carnivals one of these events in particular is the Toronto Caribbean carnival. Originally founded and introduced in the 1960’s by Canadian immigrants from the Caribbean, this festival has been considered by many as one of the largest street festivals in North America. This event is significant for many individuals as they believe that it is a way to not just share their culture and their cultural heritage with others, but that it serves as a way to preserve and express their own Caribbean identity.

Throughout the month of August, The Children’s Breakfast Club will be exploring the history of Caribana and their rich and expansive culture by sharing notable recipes and foods from the region, exploring the different islands that comprise the Caribbean, and interviews with individuals who have participated in the Toronto Caribbean carnival.
