Coming Together to Pack 1,000 Thanksgiving Food Hampers
This Thanksgiving, we were reminded once again of what is possible when a community comes together.
On Saturday, October 3, more than 150 volunteers gathered at the Ontario Food Terminal for The Children’s Breakfast Clubs’ annual Thanksgiving Food Hamper Giveaway. Together, we packed 1,000 food hampers in a record-breaking one hour, filled with fresh fruits, vegetables and nutritious staples for families across Southern Ontario.
From first responders and students to families, community leaders and corporate volunteers, everyone brought incredible energy and enthusiasm to the morning.
A Little Friendly Competition
Six teams took part in our TCBC Food Packing Cup, competing on packing quality, speed, teamwork and team spirit. Congratulations to Team 2 for taking first place and to Team 3 for coming in as our runners-up! We were honoured to have Zanana Akande present the teams with their awards.
Thank You to Our Community
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the morning possible, including Steve Moffat, North American Produce Buyers, the Ontario Produce Marketing Association (OPMA), and the Ontario Food Terminal.
Thank you to Louie Belcastro of Classic Cuisine Group for generously donating items for the hampers, and to Angela and Marwan Hage and Tim Hortons for providing food and beverages to keep our volunteers fueled throughout the morning.
A very special thank you goes to the Toronto Police Service, who were instrumental in helping us throughout the event and distributing hampers to families across various communities. We also appreciate Peel Regional Police and York Regional Police for helping distribute hampers in their communities.
Thank you to every volunteer and partner who helped make this Thanksgiving a little brighter for 1,000 families across Southern Ontario. We are so grateful for the incredible community that continues to stand behind our work.
