Bike Safety Day

The primary goals of the Safety Day was to promote a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition and exercise, to teach the children the safety rules of the road and safe cycling, and to develop in the children a love of cycling.

The event is supported by the presence of Toronto Police Officers, including those in the bicycle and motor cycle units, who will help the children understand road safety rules, assist them as they complete the obstacle course of the Bike Rodeo, conduct supervised road tests and sign off the children’s “Healthy Lifestyle” booklets, Retired constable Hugh G. Smith, who was with the Toronto Police Service’s Traffic Services branch and is a Can-Bike II Certified Instructor, will provide safe cycling instruction for the children.

The children will also attend short health, safety and first air workshops conducted by medical and injury prevention professionals, receive safety information from Toronto Fire Services, Toronto Paramedics and other health professionals, as well as participate in a fun fitness training session.
