2025 Black History Month
On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 40 students and 4 educators from Ashton Meadows School gathered at Queen’s Park to celebrate Black History Month. The intimate and inspiring event was hosted by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable Edith Dumont.
Students were given an exclusive tour of Queen’s Park and had the rare opportunity to meet and interact with Her Honour. Distinguished Black Leaders, including The Honourable Dr. Jean Augustine, Zanana Akande, Denham Jolly, Arthur Downes, and Rosemary Sadlier, shared their personal journeys and accomplishments, leaving a lasting impression on the students. As a token of appreciation, students presented her Honour with framed Black History Month posters in English and French and a thank you card.
The event concluded with a mini reception, where students had the opportunity to tour the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite, meet and interact with the Lieutenant Governor and Guest Speakers and complete activity worksheets. They also enjoyed beverages and snacks, and listened to a live music performance by a Humber College musician, Nicole Johnson.
