In 2016 over 200 children from The Children’s Breakfast Clubs had the opportunity to celebrate Black History Month in Ottawa, because of the generosity of VIA Rail and the Local 113 Transit Workers. Arriving in Ottawa they were hosted by a number of MP’s; The Honourable Ahmed D. Hussen, The Honourable Judy A. Sgro, The Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, The Honourable Ali Ehsassi and The Honourable Greg Fergus.

The Children’s Breakfast Clubs kids had the opportunity to tour the beautiful Parliament Building, the library and spend time in discussing issues to better understand of the Federal Government responsibilities.  

The 2016 Black History Month poster highlighted contribution that the Black community has made to the Toronto Police Services,  including recognizing the first black chief of Toronto Police – Chief Mark Saunders.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took part in presenting the Black History Month posters to a number of Officers from the Toronto Police Services, who were highlighted on the poster.

After the reception in Ottawa, the children returned to their communities with many fond memories.
